As part of our ongoing commitment to support our students’ well-being and academic success, we have introduced some important changes to our Extenuating Circumstances procedure and Academic Mentoring system.

We’ve been working with the Students’ Union, listening to feedback, and engaging with Student Reps to make sure these key platforms align with our students’ needs.

Extenuating Circumstances

The University has been working with students over the past six months to develop a new Extenuating Circumstances system. We’ve listened to feedback and will be introducing a single digital solution to provide the same experience for all our students across the University.

The new system is currently in place in some Schools and will be rolled out across the academic year for others.

Information on how to apply for an Extenuating Circumstances application is included below on your Faculty and School web pages.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your Faculty Support team. You can find more information on Extenuating Circumstances on our dedicatedFAQ page.

Introducing Personal Tutors

The University has launched the new Personal Tutor system to ensure our students get the right guidance and support. This follows a recent review of the Academic Mentor System by the University, Students’ Union, and students.

All students engaging in undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes are assigned a Personal Tutor, who will offer you support with your personal, academic, and professional development.  Personal Tutors will be equipped with the necessary skills, information, and confidence to help guide you throughout your journey at the University and improve both the student and staff experience.

Your feedback plays a crucial role in the success of the Personal Tutor framework. We will be reaching out later this year to gather your thoughts and opinions on how effective the role has been in supporting you.
