Listening Rooms at Swansea University

What is a Listening Room?

A Listening Room is a space where two students meet for 30-45 minutes where we can record the discussion emanating from different prompt cards. For example, a prompt card might say “Things I found challenging when starting at Swansea University” or “This one thing would improve my experiences at Swansea”. The recording will be used to produce a transcript which will be anonymised before analysing to ensure no student can be identified.

When are the Listening Rooms?

Listening Rooms are taking place online at various dates and times during March 2024. You can volunteer in pairs if you would like to, or we can match you with another student- up to you.

Focus Groups at Swansea University

What will the focus groups involve?

Each group will take place online and last between 45 minutes to 1 hour with a maximum of 7 students in each group. The focus groups will be facilitated by a researcher from Applied Inspiration and the conversation will be recorded to facilitate production of a transcript. All recordings will be stored securely and transcripts fully anonymised to ensure no student can be identified.

The facilitator will ask various questions, for example, about your experiences of starting at Swansea University, what attracted you to the University, and what challenges you may have experienced. You are free to respond as you would like, be open and honest.

The conversation will be informal and will be a safe space for students to offer feedback.

When are the focus groups?

The focus groups will take place online at various dates and times during March 2024. You can indicate your preferred date and time.
