International Women’s Day (8th March) is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world. It shines a light on the incredible success, resilience, and progress made by women from all walks of life, whether it’s in academia, the arts, science, business, social activism, or anything in between.

International Women’s Day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality, and this year’s theme is #InspireInclusion. The theme underscores the crucial role of inclusion in achieving gender equality. It calls barriers to be broken down, stereotypes challenged, and the creation of environments where all women are valued and respected. Inspire Inclusion encourages everyone to recognise the unique perspectives and contributions of women from all walks of life, including those from marginalised communities.

We’re hosting a series of events in celebration of International Women’s Day:

The Faculty of Science and Engineering will be hosting two charity cake sales on Bay Campus (Tuesday 5 March), and Singleton (Thursday 7 March). On Wednesday 6 March, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences will be hosting a “Women in Law” interactive session (1pm, Moot Court Room, Digital Technium).  Open to all, this event has been designed and will be delivered by students from Swansea Law Clinic’s Street Law Project, and will reflect on progression in the field. Please register here.

On Friday 8 March, the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science will host a lunchtime networking event at 12.30 in the ILS Seminar Room. Dr Holly Morse from the School of Health and Social Care will be the guest speaker. To attend, please register here.

Our Library team will also be hosting an International Women’s Day exhibit in Singleton Library foyer from 7th March through to the end of the month. The exhibit will celebrate women in STEM from Swansea University and beyond with photographs, information cards and physical objects from our archival collections.

Let’s make it a day to remember. Together, we can continue to strive for a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.
