Swansea Libraries is set to throw open its vaults to share some of the hidden treasures in its collections.
The special two-day event at the Central Library’s Discovery Room on October 18 and 19 offers visitors the chance to get up close to a first edition of Charles Darwin’s world-changing publication ‘The Origin of Species’ as well as its oldest book, published in 1489.
Themed around ‘Building a Library’, this year’s event will delve into the stories behind how libraries are created, showcasing who donated books to Swansea Libraries, how collections have evolved, and how libraries tackle controversial literature.
