In this campus travel update we’ll share information about bus services for the vacation period, revision and exams, as well as what we’re doing behind the scenes to improve sustainable and active travel.
Bus Services
We’ve been working hard this year, in partnership with First Bus, to improve local bus services based on what you’ve told us – thanks to all students who’ve shared their experiences!
Here’s a summary of what’s happened so far:
- 3 x Bus User Groups Held
Each session has included representatives from First Bus who want to hear directly from you about your experience using campus to campus and other local services. These sessions are your chance to shape the services you rely on.
The next session is on 10th April – To book your spot: email estatesadmin@swansea.ac.uk - Your Feedback = Real Improvements
Thank you for sharing your thoughts in these groups, First Bus has made several changes to better meet student needs, including new services tailored to lecture start/finish times, tailored exam buses, and plans for improved nighttime services for September. Feedback from students and staff suggests this year’s services are a significant improvement on last year. - On-Campus Engagement
Our Sustainable Travel Officer has joined 6 x Faculty Engagement sessions this year to keep you updated and hear your views in person. Want her to visit your department or college? Email us at travel@swansea.ac.uk and we’ll arrange it.
First Bus Timetables for Easter and Term 3 – What You Need to Know
The upcoming timetables for Term 3 have been shaped by your feedback:

- 11th May – 7th June:
Dedicated Exam timetables will mirror January exam timetables, focusing on making sure you can get to and from exams easily – View the timetable here, and don’t forget to plan ahead and get to know your exam venue. Don’t forget to check the First Bus app regularly for any updates.
Cycling & Active Travel
Last year, around 14% of you chose to cycle or walk to campus – we’d love to see even more of you joining our active travel community!
Choosing active travel is:
- Affordable.
- Great for your physical and mental wellbeing.
- Helping Swansea University reach our goal of being net zero by 2035.
This year using feedback from our travel survey, our user groups and other sources, we have:
- Introduced a new and improved bike share scheme – student memberships are just £10 a year!
- Planned new cycle stations coming soon to True and Swansea Bay Sports Park (Sketty Lane) – discussions about a future hub at Swansea Rail Station are progressing well!
- Helped over 500 of you to secure your bikes with on campus bike marking through bike register – thefts on campus have decreased by one third!
- Given away over 500 free locks and lights at our regular campus cycle roadshows – keep an eye out for information about future events…
What’s Next?
2024/25 Travel Survey – Coming Soon…
Our annual travel survey will be running from 5th May. This is your chance to have your say and help shape future services.
We’re Listening!
We know how important having reliable, sustainable travel options is to your overall experience. While some services such as commercial bus operations are outside of our direct control, we’re committed to advocating on your behalf, listening to your experiences, and continuing to push for improvements.
If you have ideas or feedback, we’re always here to listen: travel@swansea.ac.uk
