I have to say the uni buses have been an absolute disaster this year. Honestly, every year, the buses seem to get worse while prices go up. It is quite sad that many students are late for classes from time to time due to unreliable buses. Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t always allow us to walk or cycle to campus. I cannot wait for the government to replace the First Bus company! Ultimately, I cannot wait for robots to do the bus driver’s job; I am sure they will be much more friendly. They are awful.
If all the registered students attempted to come in to the Bay Campus using the bus service or car parking arrangements, would they be able to attend their lectures in person?
This academic year, the university’s transport services—particularly those provided by First Bus—have been increasingly unreliable. Many students, including myself, have experienced significant delays that have led to lateness for classes and other commitments. Despite annual fare increases, the quality of service appears to be declining. For those who cannot consistently walk or cycle due to weather conditions, dependable public transport is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. A change in service provider, or at the very least a serious review of operations, feels urgently needed. Introducing automation in the future may even offer improvements in consistency and service experience.
Additionally, the food offerings on campus leave much to be desired. There is a notable lack of halal options, which presents daily challenges for students with dietary restrictions. More broadly, the food available is often of low quality and sold at high prices. The current options do not reflect good value for money, especially considering the financial pressures students already face.
It’s disappointing to see fundamental services like transport and food fall short in an environment dedicated to higher learning. I hope the university will take these concerns seriously and work toward meaningful improvements.
