From Tuesday 27th May, essential improvement works will commence to replace the roof of the Sports Hall at Swansea Bay Sports Park, Sketty Lane.

These works will bring long term improvements for all users and are necessary to ensure the building remains safe, energy efficient and fit-for-purpose, providing an even better sporting experience in the future.

Our Project Services Team has been working closely with the contractor to minimise impact from the improvement works which will enhance the sporting experience through:

  • A brand-new Sports Hall roof
  • Upgraded SMART LED lighting, ventilation, and solar panels
  • A brand-new timber-sprung sports hall floor
  • New basketball hoops, enabling full-court play
  • Acoustic panels to reduce echo and noise

To carry out this work safely, the Sports Hall will need to close until late 2025.

We are working closely with the Sports Development Team and the management team at Swansea Bay Sports Park to ensure suitable alternative venues are made available to our regular Sports Hall users, including Sports Clubs.

What’s staying open?

While the sports hall will be closed throughout the works, the remainder of the facility remains largely unaffected:

  • The gym, multi-purpose room, evolve studios, changing rooms and balcony offices will remain accessible via the link corridor (some short-term disruptions may occur).
  • The Wales National Pool is unaffected.
  • The outdoor track spectator stand will stay open, with scaffolding and netting installed overhead for safety.
  • Parking: The majority of the car park will be unaffected, however the disabled bays (around 20–25 spaces) will be out of use to allow for a contractor compound. Blue badge spaces will be relocated (details coming soon).

We really appreciate your patience and understanding during these essential improvement works. If you have any queries or concerns about the roof refurbishment and associated works, email us at campusdevelopment@swansea.ac.uk.
