We’re excited to share that Swansea University has been successful in achieving a Bronze Race Equality Charter Award (REC). This achievement recognises our undertaking in making real changes and endorses the University’s commitment to attain institution-wide race equality.
The REC Award demonstrates our dedication to creating a more inclusive university — where every student and staff member, especially those from ethnic minority backgrounds, feels they belong and has equal opportunities to thrive.
Using the Race Equality Charter framework, the university has carefully reviewed and analysed data and feedback to identify the challenges and barriers faced by ethnic minority students and staff. This has been a challenging process, involving sensitive and complex issues that required a thoughtful approach and strong support from senior leaders to ensure real and lasting progress.
We now have a 5-year action plan in place to address key priorities to enhance the experiences and opportunities for ethnic minority students.
Some of our key priorities are to:
- Build a more inclusive campus where everyone feels they belong.
- Working towards achieving parity in degree outcomes between White UK, UK Ethnic Minority, and Non-UK students, without altering academic standards for any groups.
- Establish clear, trusted ways to report racism and microaggressions, whether on campus or off.
