Start of Term Travel & Transport Update – including bus service improvements, big discount news, more cycling opportunities and ways to have your say.

Over the summer months, our team has been working hard with transport providers to help improve how you get to and from campus and around the city.

Here’s what’s new this year:

  • 91 service – more capacity at peak times.
  • N91 night service – now running until midnight (previously 7 pm – use it or lose it!).
  • 90 service – faster routes between the City Centre and Bay Campus.
  • 92 service –more frequent services between the peak times of 6pm and 7pm, when the night services start.
  • N92 night service – running until midnight Monday-Tuesday, and until 3.30 am Wednesday-Saturday
  • X1 improvements – now serving Singleton Campus (via Singleton Hospital), with double-deckers linking to the Quadrant Bus Station, Bay Campus and Neath Port Talbot Hospital, and also providing an out of term time hourly campus to campus service.
  • New Swansea University Cycle hubs at True and Knab Rock Mumbles to support your active journeys.
  • Social cycle rides coming soon…

We Hear You!

These improvements have been shaped by your feedback – thanks to everyone who shared their travel and transport experiences last year! We’re keen to hear from you this term and will be launching our Autumn Travel Survey soon, giving you another chance to share your experiences and influence further improvements. There are also plenty of other ways you can make your voice heard:

  • Travel pop-ups and roadshows on campus
  • Bus and cycle user groups
  • By email: travel@swansea.ac.uk
  • Via Unitu

Big discounts for 16–21-year-olds

The Welsh Government is piloting a new scheme to make bus travel even more affordable for young people living in Wales. From 1 September you can get big discounts with a mytravelpass:

  • Single ticket: £1
  • Day ticket: £3 (unlimited travel and accepted by all participating providers)
  • ⅓ off: Week, Month, Term/Year, and Annual Tickets (available now)

You’ll need to show a valid mytravelpass card to access these fares. Apply now at mytravelpass.tfw.wales. Existing cardholders don’t need to reapply. Those not eligible can still tap on tap off – £2 single and capped at £4 for a day ticket on all City Centre and Campus to Campus Services.

Discounted fares to be purchased with the mytravelpass on the bus or via the app – not available with tap on tap off.

Driving and Parking

We do encourage active and sustainable travel. A reminder that parking on campus and around the city is limited! If you do have to drive, parking is available at:

  • Fabian Way Park & Ride for Bay Campus
  • Recreation Ground for Singleton
  • A limited number of permits are available to eligible students, including overnight permits.
  • Please be mindful or our neighbours, park considerately in designated parking zones and avoid parking in residential areas, hospital grounds or local business premises.

Everything you need to know about travelling to and from campus and around the city, including helpful guidance about which services you’ll need is available online at Swansea.ac.uk/travel. Our Sustainable Travel Officer will be out and about on campus during arrivals and orientation week and into the academic year to answer any travel & transport questions you may have.
