Important Update – First Cymru Strike Action – Travelling to and from Campus
First Cymru* drivers are planning to take industrial action over pay and conditions, with the later planned dates now going ahead. This will severely disrupt bus services throughout the region, including campus to campus services.
Planned industrial action is expected to take place on the following dates:
- Thursday 30th October
- Friday 31st October
- Saturday 1st November
- Sunday 2nd November
- Wednesday 5th November
- Thursday 6th November
- Friday 7th November
- Saturday 8th November
During strike days, only a number of skeleton services will be running, which will operate with a limited timetable and may not provide services that include the university campuses. Further updates and information can be found on the First Cymru website here.
*Please note that First Cymru is a private bus service operator delivering a commercial service. It is not operated or controlled by Swansea University.
Strike day teaching and learning
During strike days, in-person teaching will continue as normal on our campuses. Lectures will be recorded, and all materials will be available on Canvas.
Student engagement monitoring will be suspended during the strike period. Students who are required by UKVI regulations to attend in-person lectures will not be penalised on strike days. However, if you can access campus, we encourage you to continue to attend your lectures and teaching in-person.
Getting to and from campus on strike days
If you live within walking or cycling distance of campus, we strongly encourage you to consider these options during strike days.
The Park & Ride Shuttle Service operated by South Wales Transport, linking Fabian Way Park & Ride and Bay Campus, will run as normal and is unaffected by the strike action.
