The University wants to support you with your studies.

Access to your learning is primarily done in person by attending your lectures and seminars on campus and this is the best way to ensure that you are getting the most out of your studies and University experience.

Students are required to tap their cards on the readers installed in all teaching spaces to confirm their attendance. For Student Route visa holders, this is very important as the Home Office (UKVI) expects these students to engage with their studies in person.

Over the course of the start of term, there have been reports of students scanning into scheduled learning sessions for others or scanning their card and then not attending the scheduled learning session. Please note that this is is in breach of the Engagement Monitoring Policy for Taught Students and students should not give their cards to other students to swipe on their behalf.

Any suspected misuse of the system will be investigated by the Faculty/School and/or Student Compliance Services and students may be subject to the University’s Student Disciplinary Procedure. This could lead to a student being required to withdraw from the University. Where a student is enrolled on a course leading directly (or partially) to a professional qualification or the right to practise a particular profession or calling, they may also be referred under the Fitness to Practise procedures.

Staff will be conducting enhanced checks at face-to-face learning sessions during the remaining teaching weeks after Easter as a reminder for students to tap their card when entering teaching spaces. This will also serve to ensure the card readers at locations across campus are in good working order.

Please visit our MyUni pages for more information on how and why we monitor your attendance.
