Calan Mai is the traditional Welsh celebration of May Day (1st May), and this year we’re hosting a day full of fun and activities to celebrate! You’ve worked so hard this year, and you’ve taken part in lots of engagement activities including the Big Swansea Survey, so we want to thank you by hosting this event for all students across the University.

The event will be held on Bay Campus from 1pm until 5pm, with various activities happening outside the Great Hall and in our Engineering buildings.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences have been busy planning the event alongside the Students’ Union. Here’s just some of what you can expect to see:

  • Live DJs
  • Food trucks providing vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options!
  • A fun fair
  • A mini pop-up market
  • Gaming tournaments
  • VR Café & demos
  • Board games
  • Prize draws

There will also be a chance to get involved in sports activities throughout the day:

  • 1pm – Football and Basketball
  • 2pm – Rounders and Volleyball
  • 3pm – Volleyball, Basketball and Tag Rugby
  • 4pm – Cricket

If you’d like to take part in the sports games or join a team, you can find out more and sign up here.

There is a small fee of £2 if you want to take part in sports activities, but you’ll receive a free t-shirt to add your own design to!  You will be asked to collect your t-shirt and add your design prior to the event, either at FSE Reception (Engineering Central, Bay) or Wallace Reception (Singleton) between 9am and 3pm on Monday 29th or Tuesday 30th April. If you want to collect your t-shirt earlier, please reach out to studentexperience-scienceengineering@swansea.ac.uk. Once you sign up, you’ll be automatically entered into the Get ACTIVE prize draw.

For everything else, you can simply turn up on the day and get involved in the fun!

Everyone is welcome, so pop the date in your diaries and let your friends know.
